THE ALMIGHTY (El Shaddai) PART 2

The Sovereign God of Power and Presence

The word “The Almighty” is one of the most profound and awe-inspiring names of God revealed in Scripture. It encapsulates God’s omnipotence, sovereignty, and unchanging nature. In a world full of chaos and uncertainty, the concept of “The Almighty” reminds believers that God is not only in control but also eternally powerful and intimately involved with His creation.

“El Shaddai”

El means “God” and Shaddai is often translated as “Almighty,” it can also mean “to overpower” or “destroy,” it can also be seen as a connection with “breast,” according to some scholars which implies nourishment and sufficiency. Which ever way you are perceiving or understanding it, El Shaddai reflects both power and provision; God who is mighty enough to conquer and tender enough to sustain.

The Almighty in Suffering

In the book of Jobs, he uses “The Almighty” over 30 times, often expressing both reverence about God’s sovereignty.

“Shall any teach God knowledge? Seeing he
judgeth those that are high” — Job 21:22 (KJV)

Even while Job is in suffering, he acknowledges that the Almighty is just, wise, and unsearchable in His judgments.

The verse emphasises the ruling power of the Almighty, regardless of the position man finds or creates for themselves in this world; God has the power to bring them to judgement as He desires. No one can judge, question or challenge his authorities, he does what he likes and wishes at his will. This shows that he has the power to rule over your business if you would allow him to be at the helm of affairs.

The book of Amos and Isaiah also emphasise God’s authority over nations and history—a God who executes judgment with absolute righteousness.

“Howl ye; for the day of the Lord is at hand;
it shall come as a destruction from the Almighty.” — Isaiah 13:6 (KJV)

“Hate the evil. And love the good, and establish
Judgment in the gate: it may be that the LORD God
Of hosts will be gracious unto the remnant of Joseph” — Amos 5:15 (KJV)

The Almighty as Assurance of God’s Power

Believers can find peace and courage in knowing that the Almighty rules over every detail of life.

“But our God is in the heaven: he hath
done whatever he hath pleased.” — Psalm 115:3 (KJV)

No circumstance is beyond His control. No enemy is too strong. No promise is too hard for Him to keep. Knowing that the Almighty is also gracious and good, we can endure trials with hope:

“My grace is sufficient for thee, for My strength is made
perfect in weakness.” — 2 Corinthians 12:9 (KJV)

Call to Worship and Reverence

The knowledge of God’s almighty nature should lead us to reverent worship, humble obedience, and faithful service:

“Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants
of the world stand in awe of Him.” — Psalm 33:8 (KJV)

The Almighty and the Return of Christ

In the final chapters of Revelation, the Almighty is seen seated on the throne, ushering in a new heaven and a new earth.

“I saw no temple therein; for the Lord God Almighty
and the Lamb are the temple of it.” — Revelation 21:22(KJV)

This reveals a glorious future where God Almighty dwells with His people, wipes away every tear, and abolishes death, pain, and sin forever. The name “The Almighty” stands as a timeless reminder that God is infinitely powerful, absolutely sovereign, and forever faithful. He is the One who speaks and it is done, commands and it stands
fast. For those who know Him, His almighty power is not a threat, but a refuge. The book of Proverbs made this known to us believers.

“The name of the LORD is a strong tower;
the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” — Proverbs 18:10 (KJV)

As you walk in faith, may the revelation of The Almighty strengthen your heart, embolden your steps, and deepen your worship.
